From left: Kae Tea, Flexxington Don, Dorchester Hollis. This week Kae Tea, Flex, and Hollis. The CLXB collaborates again to put together a new composition based on Nas - "Got Yourself a Gun." When it was released, "Got Yourself.." was one of those songs that inspired my production and writing style. There are at least 3 full songs floating around in some lost notebook written to that Salaam Remi beat. I always wanted to record to that beat, being that it inspired countless verses since finding it on that infamous J Armz instrumental album (IYKYK)... but we make originals, so we took it one step further.

I ran the ideas by the team in the session and Kae & Flex were up for the challenge of making something original, capturing the essence of that song while making something without sampling the record itself. The results were a success. During the beat making process Hollis and I were ranting back and forth with freestyles that wouldn't stop. At some point we had to stop and leave some energy for the booth. Now that the song is done all that is left is the release, stay tuned.
